Background of Turkish Coups in a Nutshell

This piece I believe offers the best assessment at this early date of the attempted military coup in Turkey. As such it is necessarily speculative, but it is based on some very intelligent observations from excellent sources such as Sybil Edmonds who is of Turkish descent.
As pointed out by former FBI employee Sybil Edmonds, Gülen schools are a well-disguised rear asset of the CIA and are used for operations in the different regions of the world.
I've always believed that the US has protected and supported the Gülen organization in order to act as a check on Turkish governments.

Then there is the timing of this coup:
The pro-American coup it was made at precisely the moment when Erdogan apologized to Putin and expressed a strong willingness to make adjustments in Turkey's foreign policy by beginning to change its position on the Syrian issue.
