We’ve lived so long under the spell of hierarchy—from god-kings to feudal lords to party bosses—that only recently have we awakened to see not only that “regular” citizens have the capacity for self-governance, but that without their engagement our huge global crises cannot be addressed. The changes needed for human society simply to survive, let alone thrive, are so profound that the only way we will move toward them is if we ourselves, regular citizens, feel meaningful ownership of solutions through direct engagement. Our problems are too big, interrelated, and pervasive to yield to directives from on high.

While sheltering-in-place these critical and independent thinkers offer their views on the current situation. I personally favor the posts about Connecticut workers from Left Voice, Caitlin Johnstone's weblog, and from Black Agenda Report.
  • How It Starts by Craig Murray from his weblog. (Note: One of Britain's foremost independent and critical thinkers expresses his views on the current crisis.)

  • Fired Amazon Strike Leader Has Powerful Message featuring Jimmy Dore (of The Jimmy Dore Show) interviewing Christian Smalls (via YouTube), the Amazon supervisor who was fired by Amazon for trying to protect his fellow workers, and explaining his experience related to the firing. If you liked this, you might be interested in Dore's post entitled "Workers Are Striking From Coast To Coast!!" in which he reports that workers are striking without union support all across America, and vents his anger.
My commentary: One thing I've noticed in both corporate media and government actions is that nothing has changed with either of them during this pandemic. They're both continuing as usual: media corporations like CNN, MSNBC, PBS, etc. are continuing their anti-Trump bias and Fox News is continuing showing various members of the Trump administration bloviating how great they are doing. Meanwhile, the government continues its assault on Venezuela, Iran, and China via increasing sanctions and threats. Domestically the Trump administration continues to weaken environmental protections. And, last but not least. the Fed is using the the crisis to bail out major banks while putting our nation (that's us) deeper in debt.

My commentary to both above articles: To be sure, the pandemic is wrecking havoc on the capitalist system (neoliberalism is only the current developmental phase); but as effective as the pandemic will be in damaging the capitalist system, it looks to me that it is only a dress rehearsal for the inevitable extinction of most life on our planet Earth due to global warming caused by excessive and obsessive industrial that capitalism demands. The cessation of industrial activities during this pandemic will only hasten rising temperatures as explained by Guy McPherson. But at least this pandemic makes it possible in the near future for humans to gain greater dignity by realizing that their economic system is responsible for this cataclysmic end. I believe that this realization is the best we can hope for, and humans can partially redeem themselves if they can establish socialist institutions in socialist societies before their demise.
  • Brave Republican Stands Against Stimulus ALONE. This post features an agitated Jimmy Dore who is struggling with disillusionment over so-called progressives in a political system that was constructed by the ruling capitalist class. But he is making progress to come up with some more effective strategies to attack this class and for the benefit of workers. If you like this post, you might be interested in another post by Jimmy Dore who shows what's now happening in Sicily could easily happen in the USA.

The political spectrum in the USA has shifted significantly to the right since WWII . This is largely because our ruling capitalist class decided to build an empire in 1941 when the well-connected (to the ruling class) Henry Luce, owner and editor of Time Magazine, announced the "American Century". During the 1930s many in the ruling class throughout advanced capitalist countries expressed sympathies and actual deeds in support of fascist Germany and Italy. I have read many books (read, for example, Big Business and Hitler by Jacques R. Pauwels) that also support this fact.

Since Luce's announcement, US intellectuals and propagandists have revised American history of the 20th century to reflect benign and humanitarian influences that the US has had on the world. This revised history has permeated all institutions of the USA including especially Hollywood films and education. The CIA has taken control over media and filled it, and the minds of Americans, with fake news such as Russia-gate themes and other fantasies. (See my commentary here.)

The effect that this has had on American society has been a marked shift in the political spectrum toward the right-wing. Another related effect is that during the current crisis of the pandemic, Americans are thoroughly confused and frustrated about how our masters are dealing with this crisis, and a wave of growing frustration and anger exists as is evident in today's post by Jimmy Dore.
  • Debunking clickbaits – expert: “not just a flu” and “not a bioweapon”. Joe Rogan interviews Michael Osterholm who "is an internationally recognized expert in infectious disease epidemiology" and based in Minneapolis. This is posted on A bird's eye view of the Vineyard. (I don't doubt his qualifications, but I'm not yet convinced that coronavirus is not a bioweapon. I wasn't convinced that the virus was a bioweapon. I just waited for further evidence.)

I am posting articles mostly about the coronavirus pandemic from what I believe are credible sources and/or writers. I will not pretend that anyone is infallible, because they are not. I think they are honestly using their best judgement to figure out what is going on with the pandemic and the best course of action. You must form, as always, your own opinions.

  • The War on Death by C. J. Hopkins from his weblog Consent Factory, Inc. (satire)
The point is, the global capitalist empire (for whatever reasons, real or imagined) has turned on the MINDLESS HYSTERIA machine, and dialed it up as high as it goes. People are in full-blown headless chicken mode. No one (or hardly anyone) is thinking, or listening to dissenting opinions, or paying attention to official statistics, or common sense, or anything else that contradicts the War on Death narrative.

  • Shortage of ventilators [respirators] explained by Dr. Emily Porter of Austin, Texas (via YouTube). (Note: There is not only a shortage of ventilators but also test kits and facemasks, the latter especially for hospital workers, which are necessary to seriously limit the damage done to our population. It seems common sense that only telling people to shelter-in-place ensures that infected people will spread the virus to their families. Only people who test positive must be quarantined. And, Jimmy Dore wonders why Facebook has waited until a few days ago to donate 720,000 facemasks.)
  • Trump Administration Endangers the Lives of Health Care Workers by Anita Desikan from Union of Concerned Scientists. (Note: Blaming things on Trump seems to be so fashionable these days, but I don't buy it. Still, I think that this article presents credible information regarding our health system and its weaknesses.)

A few years ago I wrote a piece for Labor Day suggesting that it become a “do-nothing day.” It was a bit satirical but of course had a serious point as satire does. I had little hope that my recommendation would be adopted. Now that we are suffering from coronavirus panic and people are being told to shelter in their homes, many are no doubt suffering withdrawal symptoms from having to slow down. After all, how many cookies can you bake, television and movies watch, liquor drink, emails and texts send and receive, toilet paper rolls count, etc.?

I am well aware that this enforced idleness has inflicted enormous economic damage on regular working people world-wide, as I believe it is meant to do. The psychological damage is incalculable. The super-rich will no doubt profit mightily from the coronavirus crisis while the poor and middle-classes, small business owners, and the elderly will suffer greatly.
... US health officials seem to be deprioritizing this targeted approach in favour of social-distancing measures, as is the United Kingdom. Such behaviour is a matter of concern for the WHO, which recommends both strategies. “We have not seen an urgent enough escalation in testing, isolation and contact tracing, which is the backbone of the response,” said director-general Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus at a press briefing on 16 March. “We cannot stop this pandemic if we don’t know who is infected,” he said. “You cannot fight a fire blindfolded.”
... the only progressive way out of the coronavirus crisis can come from working-class action, both nationally and internationally. And to bet on it, we need from now on to promote an emergency program that allows the exploited and oppressed not to come out defeated, dispersed, and impoverished by this crisis, but rather as an active force, more organized and conscious of its own strength. At the same time, it is the working class that is most exposed to contagion, in conditions of precarious work, with terrible transport systems, without safety and hygiene conditions in the companies.

In the face of the disaster to which the capitalists have led us, it is necessary to show that it is the workers themselves who can take all the necessary measures: not only from the point of view of guaranteeing work, stopping massive layoffs, and maintaining wages, but also providing food and medical resources for the entire poor population — and not only for a rich minority. This will only be possible if workers’ democratic control from below can be imposed in the workplace in an effort to secure and convert production to meet social priorities.

  • Climate gentrification threatens Miami's last affordable housing by Irina Ivanova from CBS News. (Note: This may be a harbinger of things to come that illustrate class-based social consequences of rising sea levels that are caused by global warming. As always in a capitalist system the poor will be initially impacted far more than the rich.)
  • Does the Coronavirus Pandemic Serve a Global Agenda? by Senta Depuydt from Children's Health Defense. (Note: Depuydt provides evidence of the overwhelming influence of major pharmaceutical corporations and political bias against the Empire's opponents like China. She puts less emphasis on the availability of testing for coronavirus (which I think is of critical importance) and the ineffectiveness of quarantining, but she does write the following in one paragraph:
The current power struggle in France about coronavirus strategies between health officials and the country’s leading expert is truly eye opening. Professor Didier Raoult, who is one of the world’s top 5 scientists on communicable diseases and leads the high tech research center on infectious diseases, IHU – mediterranée Marseilles, argued that the approach of mass quarantine is both inefficient and outdated and that large scale testing and treatment of suspected cases achieves far better results.
The author puts much more emphasis on effective, low cost treatment of the virus that Chinese experience has proven.  But can we be surprised with evidence of capitalist ruling classes protecting their own interests of profit and power in their strategies to combat this virus?
At one point Depuydt provides us with this insightful comment:
It is undeniable that the coronavirus epidemic has come on the scene at a crucial moment, when people everywhere are in revolt against the power of international financial institutions and multinational pharmaceutical corporations, whose stranglehold on governments is no longer hidden. Many scandals have shaken confidence. The bankruptcy of an aberrant economic system is accelerating, and attempts to start a third world war are multiplying. While it is impossible to know how the “coronavirus pandemic” will influence the redistribution of power, it is certain that many are seeking to have Covid-19 serve the political interests of a global governance project. [Her emphasis.]

My commentary: Notice that the Newsweek article uses variations on the word "secret" government legislation dating back to the Eisenhower administration. This process was accelerated during both natural and man-made threats to the US government, but expecially the latter after 9/11. We've witnessed this phenomenon grow ever since; and now with the coronvirus and the government negligence to establish an effective public healthcare system, a military junta takeover is becoming a realistic probability.
The Joint Chiefs of Staff codified these rules in October 2018, reminding commanders that they could decide, on their own authority, to "engage temporarily" in military control in circumstances "where prior authorization by the President is impossible" or where local authorities "are unable to control the situation." A new Trump-era Pentagon directive calls it "extreme situations." In all cases, even where a military commander declares martial law, the directives say that civil rule has to be restored as soon as possible. [My emphasis.]
Now that it is likely too late, will people take Peter Koenig's warning in 2016 seriously? Do you actuallly believe that the present anemic capitalist version of "democracy" will ever be restored? If so, I have a fine bridge to sell you.

The fictional pandemic exercise titled Event 201 was a high level simulation exercise that took place on October 18, 2019, at The Pierre, a luxury hotel in Manhattan NY. High-level global participants gathered to explore ideas as to how to mitigate devastating worldwide economic and societal impacts that would result from “a severe, highly transmissible intercontinental outbreak”. [Source] The exercise was built around a fictionalized CAPS virus, a naturally occurring coronavirus (not unlike SARS or MERS) which originated in bats, but for the fictional exercise, it had emerged from pigs.
The event was held by Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security, in partnership with the World Economic Forum and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
To help you to decide at least tentatively, you should also read an article by F. William Engdahl entitled "Coronavirus, Vaccines and the Gates Foundation" from Global Research.)
  • Why Assume There Will Be a 2020 election? General Butler and the ‘Wall Street Putsch’ Revisited by Matthew Ehret from Strategic Culture Foundation. (Note: Ehret, educated in Canada, knows the history of fascism far better than nost Americans. US schools, and people "educated" in these schools, are subject to revised history that suits the interests of the ruling capitalist class. Although FDR saved capitalism that is controlled by mostly sociopathic people, he was a moral human being that abhorred the suffering of working men and women.

  • The Coronavirus Is Not the Plague: The Plague Is US by Edward Curtin from his weblog Behind the Curtain. (Note: Curtin refers to a metaphor in a novel by Camus, who wrote a book called The Plague in 1947, to warn us of a likely use of today's plague, the coronavirus. Camus used the metaphor, a plague, as representing the fascist forces that he experienced in Vichy France which collaborated with the Nazis during WWII. Curtin sees this metaphor as being relevant today and as a warning that fascist forces here in the USA, which are very much alive today, will likely use this very real plague of the coronavirus to keep us docile, obedient, and distracted from the crimes they are committing in the world.)
  • COVID-19: The Mutilated World Is Moved by the Nurses and Doctors by Vijay Prashad from Consortium News. (Note: In contrast to the warning by Curtin, he writes with a passionate appeal that this coronavirus plague should spur our efforts to demand that an effective public health system be established throughout the world. But he also warns us that "the world’s heads of governments rely upon fear to bewilder their populations; they thrive on panics of one kind or another.")
In a world in which is dominated by tiny rich and powerful ruling classes whose interests of profit and power impels them to serve their interests against the interests of the great majority of the world's population, corruption and conspiracies are likely in operation. Michel Chossudovsky reviews the contradictions and discrepancies, that he knows about, to challenge the reports that we are getting in mainstream media. Faulkner asks many questions about  governments and non-profits, and Chossudovsky shares his knowledge which suggests that all these bodies are substantially influenced by the rich and powerful.
I don't necessarily endorse his views (nor any of the others that I post), but I post all of those who are credible and sincerely trying to decipher the truth about our world. The latter has been thoroughly distorted by rich and powerful capitalists who I am convinced by an abundance of evidence that they are totally self-serving.

Read the article to see how he reaches this conclusion:
We are still barely starting to understand the consequences of Covid-19 for the future of neoliberal turbo-capitalism. What’s certain is that the whole global economy has been hit by an insidious, literally invisible circuit breaker. This may be just a “coincidence.” Or this may be, as some are boldly arguing, part of a possible, massive psy-op creating the perfect geopolitlcal and social engineering environment for full-spectrum dominance.
I mean, it’s not like the global capitalist empire was right in the middle of a War on Populism (a war that it has been losing up to now) and wanted to take this opportunity to crank up some disaster capitalism, terrorize the global public into a frenzy of selfish and irrational panic, and just flex its muscles to remind everybody what could happen if we all keep screwing around by voting for “populists,” tearing up Paris, leaving the European Union, and otherwise interfering with the forward march of global capitalism.

No, it certainly isn’t like that. It is an actual plague that is probably going to kill you and your entire family if you don’t do exactly what you’re told. So, forget this little thought experiment, and prepare yourself for global lockdown. It probably won’t be so bad … unless they decide they need to run the part of exercise where it goes on too long, and people get squirrelly, and start rebelling, and looting, and otherwise not cooperating, and the military is eventually forced to deploy those Urban Unrest Suppression Vehicles, and those Anti-Domestic-Terror Forces, and …
  • Podcast: Cocoon Sessions, Episode 1 featuring Australian Caitlin Johnstone (from her weblog) and somebody named "Tim Foley" who probably is her American husband. This is a new series that they have started to apparently help people who are dealing with this health crisis and the additional stress that it has caused in our lives. I haven't listened to much of this long casual discussion (1:11:32) with Foley because I simply don't have the time, but you might be interested.

  • The Surrealism of the Information War by Gilbert Mercier from News Junkie Post. (Note: Mercier uses this article to point to other insightful articles that the author has produced in order to keep us focused on the real capitalist plague that will end in our vanishing as a species. If the efforts to combat this latest virus had been applied to ending capitalist ruling classes' assault of the Earth, we might have been able to save our human species (and most other species). But that would have caused the end of capitalism and its ruling classes. The latter have given, and continue to give, greater priority to their rule than they do to all living species on planet Earth.)
In their confusion and thirst for truth, people get caught like flies on tasty propaganda glue. The intricate labyrinths built by the information warriors prevent the real discourse, which should be about how to survive the imminent systemic collapse of global capitalism. It cannot be otherwise when global corporate imperialism itself controls the discourse worldwide. Hypnotized by a myriad of vanishing points, humans might be on a course to vanish.
My commentary: While people are currently absorbed in the current crisis of coronavirus, they shouldn't forget about other issues related to crucial propaganda products serving our masters in the US/Anglo/Zionist Empire. Gowans, a top geopoitical Canadian analyst who knows real history, takes apart much of the propaganda laden history relating to Korea of the 20th and 21st centuries. In this rather lengthy article he reveals the true nature of this history which is very much alive today not only in Korea, but those classified as "enemies" in the rest of the world that the Empire is confronting. I have read Bruce Cumings excellent two volumes on Korea (look in the recommended books section of this weblog for volume 1) that he mentions in the article as a basis of my knowledge about the true history of the Korean conflict.
  • The Bush Administration’s Secret Biowarfare Agenda by Stephen Lendman from a re-posted article in Global Research. (Note: This article outlines the extensive history of US biowarfare programs (as of 2008) not only associated with the "Bush administration", but to all US administrations since the Empire was launched after WWII. Lendman gives little emphasis on biowarfare used by the US during the Korean War. I recommend reading a book entitled This Must Be the Place by Dave Chaddock to inform you about this history.)

We need self-organization from the below, with unions and social organizations at the forefront, taking adequate measures to demand a real health emergency plan to stop the Coronavirus and the chaos to which the capitalists and their governments are leading us. The unions have to fight for the workers and be a tool to get medicare, paid leave, and everything else that the crisis for the working class demands. The working class has a major role to play in resolving the crisis.

The Defender-Europe 20 military exercise is obviously directed against Russia. So why is it patently inconsistent with the otherwise drastic measures such as limiting crowd sizes, closing schools, cancelling political and sporting events, limiting travel, etc. that many nations are taking to limit the spread of this new Coronavirus that originated in China? Don't misunderstand me--this is a real threat especially to elderly. Meanwhile, this viral attack and NATO countries severe reactions could be the catalyst that tips capitalist economies into collapse if recent adverse effects on capitalist economies continue.  I will await further information on this topic before I consider any suspicions of a 9/11 type of false-flag event to serve several fascist and imperalist interests of the Empire's Deep State, the trans-national finance capitalists whom we are all literally in debt to. (Also, see this --I restored the link to the Voltaire website after discovering that it ultimately went to Facebook. Hopefully it will remain.) Ruling capitalist classes are perfectly capable of gross crimes against humans such as this as they have demonstrated in the past. Whether or not they are capable of this crime, only future events and whistleblowers can reveal. (Update: I noticed this article on the following Monday that Germany is withdrawing their participation in the exercise.)
    • Toilet Paper Is the People’s Vaccine by Edward Curtin from his weblog Behind the Curtain. (Note: I had revised the formatting of my comment when I inadvertently erased my comment. I had a personal experience today with this startling phenomenon, followed by Curtin's article which proposed a theory to explain it. I was not convinced of his theory, but I don't have any other explanation for this irrational practice.)
    • Tulsi’s Emergency UBI Plan & More For Coronavirus. Tulsi Gabbard, who is now excluded from candidate debates by the Democratic Party, appears with Jimmy Dore (via a YouTube channel) to offer her recommendations to cope with the Coronavirus and the experience of Hawaiians who she represents in Congress.
