We’ve lived so long under the spell of hierarchy—from god-kings to feudal lords to party bosses—that only recently have we awakened to see not only that “regular” citizens have the capacity for self-governance, but that without their engagement our huge global crises cannot be addressed. The changes needed for human society simply to survive, let alone thrive, are so profound that the only way we will move toward them is if we ourselves, regular citizens, feel meaningful ownership of solutions through direct engagement. Our problems are too big, interrelated, and pervasive to yield to directives from on high.

Trump and Climate Catastrophe

Click here to access article by John Bellamy Foster from Monthly Review.
The alarm bells are ringing. The climate-change denialism of the Trump administration, coupled with its goal of maximizing fossil-fuel extraction and consumption at all costs, constitutes, in the words of Noam Chomsky, “almost a death knell for the human species.” As noted climatologist Michael E. Mann has declared, “I fear that this may be game over for the climate.”

  1. Like so much on the MSM and internet these days, this is just more latte liberal, pink-hat-wearing, Russophobic, panic hype.

The death knell for the climate sounded over a decade ago, at minimum. The feedback loops set in motion a decade ago will raise global temperatures beyond plant and animal ability to cope within the next decade. Translation: contrary to popular western human belief (as opposed to fact), humans are completely interdependent with all other living beings. No plants and animals, no food, no humans.

But, blaming it on Trump and Putin are all the rage, so why not? Let's go out hating - especially hating all the wrong people. And, heaven forbid we should shoulder any of the blame ourselves.
