I found this post initially on The Unz Review (I always try to post articles from their original sources) which is an old-fashioned conservative website. I have re-posted some of their article in the past that I thought were well-written and documented. But this piece touched off a series of thoughts in my brain that related to my increasing curiosity related to what I have noticed recently on TV. TV, I believe, is heavily influenced by the secret services who see this medium as a powerful propaganda tool to be used to propagate their insidious propaganda themes on behalf of the capitalist ruling class.

I have a well-tuned sixth sense about media corporations and their collaboration with the secret services that are under the control of the capitalist ruling class. I have noticed an increasing trend that suggests that mind manipulators in the secret services are up to something: the rather startling nearly consistent use of African-Americans in nationwide commercials. 

 

But I was mystified as to what use this trend suggested ... that is until I read this article. I think this almost consistent use of African-Americans in commercials plus the recent widespread publicity about racist attacks of Asian-Americans by Black-Americans fit well with the favorite ruling classes strategy to sow interracial wars among Americans. You know--the old divide and conquer strategy.

 

Although I agree with the author of this article when he argues that these attacks on Asian-Americans represent an intermediate stage, but I differ when he predicts that the ultimate purpose is for a UN takeover of the USA. I see that these two recent trends fit well with the chaos strategy that the secret services have used to destabilize other countries beginning with Chile and El Salvador (see my commentary here, my reaction here (1st post), and my commentary here (7th post). I now believe that the two rather startling developments signal a chaos strategy designed against the American public to usher in a new authoritarian regime as was the case when the chaos strategy was used to target the destabilization of other nations. 

Perhaps the transnational ruling capitalist class of the US/Anglo/Zionist Empire now see ordinary Americans as the target to be conquered and prepared to fit in their New World Order, or the latest version of this--the Great Reset. What do you think?

The transnational capitalist class, who have homes scattered all over their Empire, doesn't divide up the world into nations. Remember, they see the world, or at least, their Empire as a whole. You, as American citizens, don't matter to them.

It appears that material advantages as an economics advisor to capitalist organizations seduced him. He now only distinguishes the productive aspects of industrial capitalism (capitalism v. 1) in contrast to the anti-social aspects of what is referred to as neoliberalism (capitalism v. 2--Hudson refers to this as a "rentier economy") which places making money as an end to itself, and which exploits entire societies as well as workers. But it is hard to deny his affection for version 1, a more pure exploitation of workers which might cause his parents to roll over in their graves.

My reaction: I always like to read Raevsky's article because, as a descendent of White Russians and an American entrepreneur himself, he knows a lot about Russia. He believes this despite the fact that they are the countries, according to this pervasive propaganda, that are the sworn enemies of US and all capitalist countries. I have personally noticed the corruption of "acceptable critique".

• Menacing Methane – An Analysis by Robert Hunziker from CounterPunch. (Note: I listened to Dr. Peter Wadhams' hour and half lecture. However, Hunziker provides a good summary of his lecture in which he cited an immediate warning of a methane burst which will likely have catastrophic consequences for humans. If this article is of interest to you, you might also find this post interesting.) My commentary follows:

Wadhams has trained as a physical scientist who is rather pessimistic about humans solving this problem. However, where I, who has trained as a political sociologist through mostly independent study and experience, differ from him in that he blames the "ignorance" of humans in general for this lack of concern of the threats posed by the climate crisis, whereas I blame primarily the capitalist classes of the US/Anglo/Zionist Empire which control all institutions of their societies. 

These capitalists are entirely addicted to their system of capitalism which has delivered to them so much profits and power that now they have created a powerful ruling class and an Empire. Therefore, it is no surprise that this Empire dominates the UN and its climate organization IPCC which he faults for having consistently underestimated the dangers of the climate crisis. It is obvious to me, and I'm joined by increasing others, that capitalism and the health of the planet are in direct opposition to each other.

During this current pandemic declared by the UN's World Health Organization, we see the obvious corruption of the UN agency through Bill Gates' top funding of the organization, but the majority of humans don't see his influence as corruption thanks to capitalist media coverage. Here in the USA the threats posed by the climate crisis is known by "climate change" which suggest a relatively benign threat thanks to the same capitalist media coverage. Wadhams, as a top climate scientist, claims that the threat is imminent.

The folks at GloboCap are no fools. They know they can’t remake the world into one big happy neo-feudal marketplace without breaking a few proverbial eggs … and not just in those “terrorist” countries, but everywhere, throughout the global capitalist empire. And that is exactly what they intend to do. So, they needed a new official narrative to justify all the broken eggs.

They haven’t settled on an official slogan yet. “The New Normal,” “The Great Reset,” “The Green New Deal” … they’re all just trial balloons at this point. It doesn’t really matter what they call it. It amounts to a new type of totalitarianism. As I noted in my previous column, “[i]t isn’t national totalitarianism, because we’re living in a global capitalist empire, which isn’t ruled by nation-states, but rather, by supranational entities and the global capitalist system itself.” But it is totalitarianism nonetheless.

My reaction: The author largely doesn't offer an argument as "to how" this development took hold in America. I think it was accomplished to a considerable extent by fear campaigns in recent times such as 9/11, the War of Terrorism, and finally the covid-19 "pandemic". Digital technology like technology in general can be used to the benefit of humans or their enslavement. Under advanced capitalism, otherwise known as fascism, it is the latter which is implemented.

• As Long As Mass Media Propaganda Exists, Democracy Is A Sham by Caitlin Johnstone from her weblog. (My reaction: Propaganda is an indispensable element added to fascism to create the neofascism of the US/Anglo/Zionist Empire. It is a crucial weapon along with the re-writing of history added to the traditional weapons of fascism (example: the militarization of police) in order to control their populations. "Democracy" has nothing to do with fascism of either type.)

• Lying, accusations major elements of US foreign policy: Iran from Press TV (Iran). (My reaction: This is precisely why Mike Pompeo is US Secretary of State. He is a consummate liar by his own admission. 

• Beware of Right Deviations That Have Emerged from the Three-Headed Crisis of US Imperialism by Danny Haiphong from Internationalist 360°. (Note: Haiphong is referring to right-libertarianism as found in the US, but not the European version which is quite different.)

• COVID-19 Exposes the Weakness of a Major Theory Used to Justify Capitalism by Richard D. Wolff from a German website Brave New Europe. My commentary follows:

Prof. Wolff is what we are left with to expose the weaknesses of capitalism after the great ideological purge of the late 1940s and '50s (see this and this). This period that saw the careers of Hollywood producers, directors, and actors destroyed along with true leftist intellectuals was very well described by Bruce Lerr. 

As a result, we now we see a very few tamed leftists who pose as true socialists like Wolff attacking the weaknesses of capitalism regarding the provision of health services of our country. (Or we see intellectuals like Wilkinson avoiding the topic of capitalism as a class-based system in preference to the highly abstract and meaningless "Business".) Wolff has been playing to the crowd, and "dissident" websites like CounterPunch, as a safe "Marxist" by promoting worker cooperatives within a capitalist system. He knows, or should know, that worker cooperatives cannot compete with private enterprises because the former serve the welfare of workers, whereas the private enterprises regard workers as expensive commondities that they must reduce in order to compete in the marketplace vis-a-vis other companies.

By attacking capitalist health services he stays on very safe ground because the capitalist system cannot serve the whole population with health services--it was never designed for this purpose. Capitalism is inherently a class based system. It was designed to serve a tiny class which has over the centuries accumulated capital in ever concentrated amounts and in ever smaller hands. Today major capitalists hold more money than entire countries along with their enormous power to subvert entire countries (and even the UN), including our own, and today's events reflect that fact. It is obvious that capitalists could never prepare for a pandemic. It's simply not "efficient" use of resources that were designed only to serve the needs of a tiny minority--capitalists.

Unfortunately, the false history of WWII has been written by the ruling classes of the current US/Anglo/Zionist Empire through their well-paid propaganda agents throughout institutions of the Empire. In contrast, Zuesse offers a valuable source of the real truth, but his insights are limited by his social-democratic political orientation. 

This article (not the article posted in Strategic Culture Foundation--an edited version that left out his statement about "capitalism"--cleared up a number of questions I had about Eric Zuesse, the author. I have written several (at least) articles complaining about his use of the feudal term "aristocracy" instead of "ruling class" in his numerous articles. I saw this as reflecting his indoctrination in capitalist views mostly influenced by many years of education in US schools that he obviously had experienced. I was not wrong. In this article he clearly defines himself as a "progressive" by which he means his commitment to social democracy, a subset of capitalist ideologies, as illustrated by what has existed in the Scandinavian countries particularly after WWII when they had elaborate social welfare programs constructed on top of capitalist economies. Also, he is an admirer of FDR who saw the necessity of more elaborate welfare programs to preserve capitalism through the Great Depression. I gathered this from several paragraphs in the article such as:

Even other parts of that post-FDR system, such as the IMF, have served as siphons from publics around the world into the bank-accounts of the U.S. aristocracy and of its allied aristocracies. That’s not what capitalism was supposed to be. [Really?]

 And another quote:

Those weren’t “socialist” countries; they were dictatorial socialist (i.e., communist) countries, as opposed to democratic socialist (i.e., progressive) countries such as in Scandinavia — the proper term for what the Soviet alliance was is “communist,” not “socialist” — and there was a very big difference between the Scandinavian countries, versus the communist countries (though the U.S. regime wants to slur one by the other so as to sucker fools against democratic socialism — progressivism).

In other words, his "progressivism" is social democratic. He evidently believes that capitalism could be compatible with a sustainable Earth and that it could remain peaceful and just in spite of abundant contrary evidence throughout the relatively short history of capitalism.

Of further interest to me was a link in this article that brought me to an article in a publication that is followed by a section of the ruling class. This was published in Foreign Policy and entitled "The Bomb Didn’t Beat Japan … Stalin Did" that added a great deal of clarity regarding the use of atomic bombs on Japan as well as the budding Empire's intentions toward the Soviet Union.

Zuesse's contributions to the geopolitical realities of our world are essential, but what isn't essential is his left-liberal views (capitalism can be reformed, his use of "aristocracy" instead of "ruling class", etc.) about these realities.

Has "left" organizations such as the Democratic Socialists of American (DSA) been taken over by subversive agents paid by Empire-serving NGOs and directly from the government? Well, the authors provide well-documented facts that suggest this is so. That reminds me of one of Lenin's insightful quotes: “The best way to control the opposition is to lead it ourselves.”

However, I think the article overstates a typical anti-Trotskyist views by painting them all with the same brush of cynical subversion. Although I don't agree with everything that the group behind World Socialist Web Site publishes, but they are a genuine followers of Trotsky, whereas the groups and organizations mentioned in the article fit the insight attributed to Lenin, but being applied by subversive agents of the US ruling class.

The 2019 Socialism Conference, like its annual predecessors, combines calls for radical economic democratic transformation and progressive social progress with the demonization of independent foreign governments that are targeted by the US government for regime change, such as Nicaragua, Cuba, Syria, Iran, China, and Russia.

The schedule of panels on foreign policy and international issues features a veritable who’s who of leftist regime-change activists. There is even a talk devoted specifically to demonizing the anti-imperialist left.

The Yellow Vests: a leftist movement which does not want to be called leftist! [Part 3 of 3]

It is precisely because of their willingness to succeed that the “masses” isolate anything that could divide them or have a negative impact on the movement’s further development. For example, despite the fact that 70% of the demands of the movement are identical to the political programme of the left-wing “France Insoumise”, the Vests have so far prevented it from playing any significant role in their activities, keeping their distance from it.

Hence, in France, at present, we see the development of a movement which seems to be very “left-wing” in terms of principles, ideas, demands, values or slogans, but which does not wish to be called “left”.

Besides, the “radicalism” of French society, as in other western countries, is manifested towards both the “radical left” and the “radical right” and in the ranks of the Yellow Vest movement one can find supporters and even cadres of parties from both ends of the political spectrum, as well as apolitical citizens. Thus, if the Yellow Vests were to start expressing any political party preferences, they would automatically lose part of the support they enjoy, becoming an easy target for their opponents and undermining their struggle.

Dolack chastises US lefts for being supportive of the withdrawal of occupying US troops in Syria:

... the bizarre and unprecedented case — even if accidental — of an alternative society partly reliant on a U.S. military presence seems to have confused much of the U.S. Left. Or is it simply a matter of indifference to a socialist experiment that puts the liberation of women at the center? Or is it because the dominant political inspiration comes more from anarchism than orthodox Marxism?

Most of the commentary I have seen from U.S. Leftists simply declares “we never support U.S. troops” and that’s the end of it ....

First, notice that he exhibits symptoms of identity politics by asking rhetorically "is it simply a matter of indifference to a socialist experiment that puts the liberation of women at the center?"

Dolack then thinks he bolsters his argument by raising the issue of support of the Allied fight against the fascism of Nazi Germany and fascist Italy. I notice that he does not raise any questions about the prelude to WWII when the Spanish Republic was torn to pieces by Nazi Germany and fascist Italy in the Spanish Civil War while the Allies stood by in "neutrality". The Trotskyist Socialist Workers Party was absolutely right when they argued that WWII "was an inter-imperialist dispute". Perhaps Dolack's position is that fascism was defeated in WWII. But, what do we have today under the domination of the US-Anglo Empire but fascism?

The Kurds in this region were very shortsightedly pragmatic in their pursuit of autonomy. They paved the way for US troops and numerous bases in Syrian territory under their control in order to pursue their own Kurdish agendas: the Kurd's version of über alles that included dominance over all the Syrians living in the areas under their military control. Meanwhile, they enabled the USA in their open agenda to remove Assad from power, and caused widespread devastation with millions fleeing for their lives to Europe.

The Kurds and their Western allies like David Gruber were experts at depicting these Kurds as putting "the liberation of women at the center"--another fake use of identity politics. Many independent journalists put the lie to such deceptions; see this, this, and this. Whenever people say one thing and do another, they are attempting to deceive you. Always believe what they do to indicate what they really believe.

In this article Dolack seems to offer an excellent illustration of a comfortable, highly educated, upper-middle-class person living in the USA who has swallowed much of corporate media propaganda and the indoctrination he received in long years of schooling. This experience likely prepared him to believe the revolutionary ideology of the Syrian Kurds that a few "leftists" have spread throughout left periodicals and websites.

I've long followed the writings of such people as Noam Chomsky, Chris Hedges, Naomi Klein, etc. Actually the longest was Alexander Cochburn, the co-founder of this website. (I've been thinking that it is past time that I added Paul Street to this list.) This list consists of people of the highly "educated" upper-middle class who have, on the one hand, written articles critical of the capitalist ruling classes, and on the other hand, pursued careers which served these ruling capitalist classes. I see them as severely compromised by the many benefits that they have enjoyed in their careers. 

Some have hidden behind leftist rhetoric of resistance to capitalist rule much like CounterPunch or The Nation; some like Chris Hedges (author of The Cancer of Occupy) late in their careers found their duties and/or their masters so distasteful that they could no long pursue such careers. Some like Alexander Cockburn were compromised by the riches of their inheritances from former ruling classes. I consider all of them as leftist dilettantes who write and speak in leftist rhetoric but have always refused to seriously engaged themselves in revolutionary activities against the capitalist ruling classes. In this article, I think that Street unintentionally offers such an illustration by describing an incident involving Douglas Ruskoff, another highly educated person who occasionally was critical of the ruling class:

In an essay bearing the suitably appropriate title “Survival of the Richest,” the leading academic “media theorist” and “digital economics” professor, lecturer, and documentarian Douglas Rushkoff tells of an invitation he accepted last year to “a super-deluxe private resort to deliver a keynote speech to what I assumed would be a hundred or so investment bankers. It was,” Rushkoff writes. “by far the largest fee I had ever been offered for a talk — about half my annual professor’s salary — all to deliver some insight on the subject of ‘the future of technology.’”

Notice that Rushkoff had no difficulty accepting such a rewarding invitation; and even though he felt deceived to what the rich were requiring of him, he continued to offer his expertise in order to keep the generous fee.

I began to reflect on all these do-gooder, pretentious leftists and my experiences with them. I remembered how the sociology material we were given in the "higher educational" institution I attended in the early 1960s always portrayed the working class as inclined to authoritarianism (fascism) and motivated by short-term goals--hence, they were disparaged. Weren't Rushkoff's experience and that of most all of the other well-educated well-trained academics illustrations of people being motivated by short-term rewards? And I remember that when Bill Moyer asked Chris Hedges about an apparent contradiction in the latter's life (see segment from 41:20m to 43:30m in this interview), Hedges fumbled around to concoct a self-justifying explanation.

I've concluded that we should not take these compromised people seriously because in the end they will always be loyal to the ruling class that sustains them in a relatively luxurious lifestyle. Likewise, no serious revolutionary organization should ever let such people take leadership roles. 

An Online Vigil in Defense of Julian Assange With Daniel Ellsberg, Craig Murray, Bill Binney and Ray McGovern

Click here to access article and lengthy (nearly 4 hrs) video posted on ConsortiumNews which was conceived by an international group of people and organized as United in solidarity for Julian Assange. They are rightfully concerned about the whistleblower-in-chief and the ongoing Empire's vendetta against him. 

This is a monumental task for this movement to protect and free Julian Assange from further harassment by agents of the Empire. However, it is evident to me that they are operating with a limited budget: the quality of the recordings, the lack of publicity up to now in alternative news media, and other mishaps. I wish to make clear that I am wholly in support of such actions even though I am offering some criticisms.

I have only listened to the first interview with Bill Binney conducted by New Zealander Suzie Dawson, and thus my commentary mostly applies to him although I think his thoughts are representative of the group as a whole.

Binney, a former employee of the National Security Agency (NSA), the Empire's primary spy agency, expands with his intimate knowledge of the NSA and the threat posed to them by whistleblowers such as Julian Assange. He offers numerous examples of NSA's lies, violations of laws and the Constitution, conspiracies by the NSA to keep Congress from meddling into their criminal affairs of running the Empire, and keeping the public in ignorance about their nefarious activities. However, his remarks only suggest the corruption of government by powerful private agencies and individuals, and the necessity to fight this corruption which he argues is leading to a "totalitarian government". Although at one point he refers to a "deep state", he nowhere expands on the implications of this. 

This ideological position precisely identifies where most of the US educated left exist. Although they might occasionally use words like "deep state", they refuse to believe that the concept refers to anything other than private entities trying to take over what, in their mind, is a genuine democratic government. They simply don't believe that our their (capitalist) government was established as a democratic facade which hides the rule by a class of self-serving owners and made possible by the system their ancestors created called capitalism.

For anything of significance to change in our nation and its Empire requires a rejection of the entire liberal mythology and the recognition of the reality of rule by a self-serving tiny class. I am not referring to the modern sense of liberal, but to the classic liberalism of the self-serving capitalist revolutionaries like John Locke, Jeremy Bentham, James Madison, and Alexander Hamilton that still exists today.  The modern sense of liberalism is simply a deceptive construct to distract people from reality.

I am convinced that only ordinary people who, after suffering so much pain and poverty, finally reject capitalism and take matters in their own hands to establish a system that works for them. This conviction means that "educated" upper-middle class leftists can not alone accomplish any significance change. They are frequently too indoctrinated and compromised by the rewards provided to them by ruling capitalists to risk anything for the establishment of another system. At least I hope that they can free Julian Assange.

• Capitalism and Democracy: Where Is The Left? by Christopher Black from New Eastern Outlook. In this article the Canadian humanitarian and international criminal lawyer aptly describes the bourgeois or capitalist version of "democracy" that deceives so many people:

  ... working people have no say whatsoever in the control of the economy and their well-being. They are forced instead to play an insulting game in which various parties of capital offer them candidates to choose from, in what are called “elections,” but which in fact are selections, that is, a system of appointing, through the illusion of the popular will, pre-selected candidates of capital to carry out capital’s agenda while candidates that represent the interests of the majority who have to work for a living are not permitted to be heard or are marginalised and ridiculed.

  And Black goes on to ask some very serious questions related to "where is the left". 

• Will Oil End the American Century? by F. William Engdahl from New Eastern Outlook. He sees sanctions and the reversal of the Iran Nuclear Agreement as a desperate attempt to maintain the power of the US Empire and its debt laden dollar. Also on the same subject read an article entitled "Africa Speculates Joining Russia, China, India and EU – Escalating De-Dollarisation Of Oil Trades" from True Publica. The oil trade in US dollars is a primary lynch-pin of US foreign and economic dominance. 

Because of the huge war debts the US racked up in the Vietnam War, Nixon was forced in the 1970s to remove gold from backing the US dollar. The solution was provided by Nixon and Kissinger and the 1974 agreement with that medieval kingdom of Saudi Arabia whereby the Saudi monarchy agreed to sell their vast supplies of oil only in US dollars in return for protection by the Empire. And this marriage of convenience between the US ruling class and the feudal monarchs of Saudi Arabia has continued to this day.

This introduction to Butler's article struck me personally because in my senior year at a major university I wrote a paper in which I made the same argument: attacking the belief that we live in a "pluralistic society", a doctrine dogma declared by one of the American gods of sociology, Talcott Parsons, at the time (1963). I receive a grade of "D" for that effort, and I knew that the same fate would await me in nearly all universities if I pursued an advanced degree in sociology. I was disciplined for not accepting the conventional ideology--another illustration of what Jeff Schmidt argued in his book Disciplined Minds.

Denying the Obvious: Leftists and Crimestop

I do not know the motivations or intentions of many prominent leftist intellectuals and publications, but I do know that many choose to avoid placing certain key historical events at the center of their analyses.  In fact, they either avoid them like the plague, dismiss them as inconsequential, or use the CIA’s term of choice and call them “conspiracy theories” and their proponents “conspiracy nuts.”  The result is a powerful propaganda victory for the power elites they say they oppose.

Orwell called it “Crimestop: [it] means the faculty of stopping short, as though by instinct, at the threshold of any dangerous thought.  It includes the power of not grasping analogies, of failing to perceive logical errors, of misunderstanding the simplest arguments if they are inimical to Ingsoc, and of being bored or repelled by any train of thought which is capable of leading in a heretical direction.  Crimestop, in short means protective stupidity.”

I'd like to attempt an answer to Curtin's excellent article, specifically to his lack of understanding of "the motivations or intentions of many prominent leftist intellectuals and publications"...who are fall prey to the intellectual disability of "Crimestop". It's capitalist culture, stupid!

Culture is like water that fish swim in. Fish, like most people, are not perceptive enough to realize that there are other waters to swim in, waters that are not polluted with extreme individualism like the one we live in. Capitalist culture has ensured that we as humans do not recognize ourselves as being social animals. No, we are mostly self-seeking animals who exist only for ourselves and our material interests. Margaret Thatcher was lying twice when she argued that there was no such thing as society, only families. Have you observed extended families fighting over the distribution of wealth from a rich relative? I have. In reality under capitalism all individuals are competing against all the other individuals for material rewards. Thus, capitalist culture has almost completely eliminated the social from our identity and replaced our sense of selves, through their comprehensive indoctrination system, as merely self-seeking animals. 

The ruling capitalist class has done this with their 24/7 indoctrination campaign to lure us into thinking that we don't need each other, even worse, that we should distrust each other, and seek only material rewards in form of money, homes, careers, and the most important of all, the ability to establish a family. Thus, one must not resist the diktats of the ruling capitalist class or else we shall have none of these rewards.

Left intellectuals like Noam Chomsky and left media people like Amy Goodwin have succumbed to these enticements and conditioning. They serve to limit the analysis of news and events by refusing to question the ruling class interpretation of those events. And they are rewarded for their refusal. Chomsky gets invited to many campuses to speak and Goodwin enjoys a very comfortable salary. 

People like socialist John Bellamy Foster who is a full professor at the University of Oregon and heir to serious socialists like Paul Sweezy, Leo Huberman, and Paul Baran at the Monthly Review, is known academically as a "Marxian" specialist. This is a label that our ruling class attaches to academic people who are experts on the studies of Karl Marx's writings. Such academics are labeled "Marxian" because they must not stray too far from the merely academic study of Marxism, such as into activist politics--those that do are labeled as "Marxists" and are banished into poverty. Foster has been rewarded with a wife (Carrie Naumoff) and a three-child family, a comfortable salary, and respectable academic standing, and this will continue if he keeps his nose clean and out of activist practice. So what if he writes in obscure journals that nobody reads about capitalism that is in deadly conflict with the health of the biosphere? Of course, he will never be interviewed by any respectable mainstream media corporation for his views on capitalism or the ongoing destabilization of the climate. He is rendered quite harmless to the system of capitalism.  He has become thoroughly domesticated.

Capitalist culture denies that there is any such thing as society because capitalists want full license to plunder societies across the world for their riches and to gain more power. That is what neoliberalism, an advanced form of capitalism, is all about. The point is that true revolutionaries--and that is what is so desperately needed right now--do not have families, they have dedicated their lives to the overthrow of capitalism because they know that the system is in the process of killing us all.
