Turbeville provides us with an absolutely excellent piece of analysis examining the historical uses of the "divide and conquer" strategy so effectively employed by the British Empire, and now continued by the new US-led Empire, particularly in the fossil-fuel rich Middle East.

While a Forward Operating Base is one way to describe Israel, it is also much more than simply a territorial staging ground for Western imperialist motives.
