...I’ve decided to re-feature an article I wrote about the subject in April, 2013. Since then the situation in Europe has immeasurably deteriorated. The old continent’s economy is seizing up at the joints, a bloody proxy war has been engineered on its Eastern fringes, a suicidal trade war has been declared against its most strategically vital neighbour, Russia, and the final touches are being put to a transatlantic trade treaty that seeks to transfer virtually all economic power and decision making to the transatlantic corporatocracy.
in the time remaining, to help us understand how the man-made system of capitalism will lead to the extinction of our human species, and so many others.
We’ve lived so long under the spell of hierarchy—from god-kings to feudal lords to party bosses—that only recently have we awakened to see not only that “regular” citizens have the capacity for self-governance, but that without their engagement our huge global crises cannot be addressed. The changes needed for human society simply to survive, let alone thrive, are so profound that the only way we will move toward them is if we ourselves, regular citizens, feel meaningful ownership of solutions through direct engagement. Our problems are too big, interrelated, and pervasive to yield to directives from on high.
