We’ve lived so long under the spell of hierarchy—from god-kings to feudal lords to party bosses—that only recently have we awakened to see not only that “regular” citizens have the capacity for self-governance, but that without their engagement our huge global crises cannot be addressed. The changes needed for human society simply to survive, let alone thrive, are so profound that the only way we will move toward them is if we ourselves, regular citizens, feel meaningful ownership of solutions through direct engagement. Our problems are too big, interrelated, and pervasive to yield to directives from on high.

Posts that I especially recommend today: Monday, February 15, 2021

  • Russia: Origin and consequences of the debt repudiation of February 10, 1918 by Eric Toussaint from CADTM (Committee for the Abolition of Illegitimate Debt). This is a best post because it provides the true history of the very important financial aspects of the Russian Revolution that was missing in your education (if you lived in western capitalist nations). My reaction: Could it be that a nation must have a revolution to repudiate its debts to capitalist nations? I think, yes, if this history has any significance for our current time.
  • The Danger of Political "Medics" by Brian Berletic, an ex-Marine living with his family in Thailand, from his weblog Land Destroyer Report. (Note: In this post Berletic exposes a common practice of US-backed subversive forces in various countries, this time in Thailand.)
