The illegal arrest of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange inside Ecuador’s London embassy, and the attempt by the US to extradite him on concocted conspiracy charges, are a frontal assault on freedom of the press. Then Grenfell launches into a description of what Julian Assange and Wikileaks has accurately revealed about war crimes committed by the US/Anglo/Zionist Empire which makes it quite a lengthy article. Of course, the directors of this Empire do not want their crimes revealed to the general public. So, if you like such crimes committed in secret by powerful people, you also want Assange punished. They want you to be only "informed" by their media corporations which they control.
The Trump administration, with the support of the Democrats, and US allies including Britain and Australia, is seeking to establish a precedent that criminalises genuine investigative journalism, including the publication of classified material exposing government illegality.
This is nothing less than an attempt to abolish the function of a genuine free press, established over centuries of struggle against despotism.
in the time remaining, to help us understand how the man-made system of capitalism will lead to the extinction of our human species, and so many others.
We’ve lived so long under the spell of hierarchy—from god-kings to feudal lords to party bosses—that only recently have we awakened to see not only that “regular” citizens have the capacity for self-governance, but that without their engagement our huge global crises cannot be addressed. The changes needed for human society simply to survive, let alone thrive, are so profound that the only way we will move toward them is if we ourselves, regular citizens, feel meaningful ownership of solutions through direct engagement. Our problems are too big, interrelated, and pervasive to yield to directives from on high.

VIDEO: How the Pentagon and CIA Push Venezuela Regime-Change Propaganda in Video Games
I've long been a critic of video war games. It seemed to me that the propaganda agents of the Deep (capitalist) State have used this popular entertainment package designed for youth to prepare them for ongoing wars that they were planning. And, no doubt was in my mind that they would insert their insidious propaganda to further focus the minds of our innocent children's attention on the Empire's "enemies du jour". All that was needed was a "9/11" type of event. And, sure enough, the 9/11 event happened and our young adults went dutifully off to fight wars in foreign lands because "terrorists" were threatening us.
The authors report on the involvement of the Pentagon and CIA in video game production.

"The Holocaust" Is a Myth That Conceals Our Shame
The author makes a good point about how history is often distorted by the use of victimization, and with particular emphasis on the current success of the victimization of the Jews that Zionists constantly use. As I was reading, I was wondering where he was going with this because he seemed to imply that it is human nature or institutional religion that are the root causes of this phenomenon. But finally at the end, he finds hope in the mysticism of various religions to rescue human nature and its culture from the "murderous lies" of such mythologies.
Ultimately it is the mystical dimension of traditional religion that holds the most hope for overcoming the murderous lies at the heart of human nature and culture.I notice that he never mentions class or rulers and the uses of victimization to secure their rule. In contrast, he diverts attention from such a view, from socialists who argue that the analysis of class structure accounts for most of human history, and that the history of WWII in particular was a history of competing capitalist empires for world dominance. The US, Anglo, Zionist Empire won. Hence the ascendance of the myth of Jewish victimization which serves to diminish all the other victims.
... all culture is based on murder and lies, can we ever stop killing and lying? Marxists think a materialist utopia would do the trick. But murderous and uncontrollable mimetic-desire-driven envy is ubiquitous, even (especially) among those whose material needs are fully satisfied.Perhaps Barrett is also serving the powerful of today.
Uncle Tom’s Empire
Hopkins first aims his satirical weapons at the "mandarins of the corporate media" (the talking heads on TV and their bosses in corporate media), but then goes on seriously to make a rather convincing argument, especially as applied to people like Manning and Assange:
The goal of the media and other propagandists is not to deceive or mislead the masses. Their goal is to evoke the pent-up rage and hatred simmering within the masses and channel it toward the official enemy. However, I think the "mandarins" mostly do this when the directors of the Empire engage in obviously despicable behavior, but otherwise they do both: deceive and direct anger at their enemies.
A Marriage of Conscience: Julian Assange and Chelsea Manning
The way I see it, no reference must be made to some obscure painting by a 16th century painter and to ancient mythology that are only known by a few highly educated people in the 21st century.
No, I think because there is so much evidence all around us in the 21st century that suggests that we, the people, have been so ground down, so inured to the suffering of others and the destruction of nature by the ruling capitalist class. Our masters in this class live by the principle that "there is not such thing as society, there are only families" (with some consideration for our neighbors so as not to offend them), and that we should no longer be moved by the suffering of others and the destruction of our habitat.
Unfortunately, our masters have insured that we were taught to believe only in our happiness and comfort and that of "our" patriarchal families (an extension of ourselves), that we, like they, don't care about the plight of others. It is because of such indoctrination that we in the 21st century have become uncaring about the suffering of others because of what we, our neighbors, and our masters do. We look away so as not to be disturbed by these ugly sights.
Like Icarus of ancient lore, Chelsea Manning and Julian Assange refused to follow what they had been taught. They were so stricken with the awareness that what we do causes the suffering of others that they had to report these facts.
Still, the Icarus in each of us cannot be completely disappeared and forever--there is much risk for our masters in such behavior.

CIA's Vault 7 Files Launched New Case Against Assange - Attack Intends To Prevent Further Leaks
This guy in Germany must be congratulated for his efforts to dig deep into issues of major importance to find jewels of truth hidden from our normal view.
In this article he digs up the reports on Vault 7 files that Wikileaks exposed, William Arkin who quit NBC over its collusion with war policies of the Deep State, the imprisoned Joshua Schulte--the alleged leaker of Vault 7, and finally answers his initial important question:
After the arrest of Julian Assange by British police and the unsealing of the U.S. indictment against him, the question is why is the U.S. doing this and why now?

Assange Arrest: The Turning Point is Here — Don’t Let Them Win [a "best post"]
I find myself in total agreement with this Chilean commentator.
The world has known for years that Assange would meet this fate. Little was done. Now, the turning point is here. Will we continue to escape into the false realities of television, cinema, video games, and whatever we use to distract us and numb our pain while the actual world in which we live devolves into a technocratic, imperial dictatorship? Will we continue to ignore the obvious threats to our lives and our children’s lives because confronting these threats is uncomfortable and often difficult?
Will we wait until they come for us because our homes are built atop resources they wish to plunder, because we shared information online they found objectionable, because we dared to question why madmen are in control of our country and much of the world?

FBI Sued for Failure to Provide 9/11 Evidence to Congress
Here is the written introduction:
The Lawyers Committee for 9/11 Inquiry, Architects and Engineers for 9/11 Truth, along with 9/11 victim family members have filed a joint federal lawsuit against the US Department of Justice and the FBI for their failure to perform a congressionally mandated assessment of any evidence known to the FBI that was not considered by the 9/11 Commission related to any factors that contributed in any manner to the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. David Meiswinkle, Mick Harrison, Barbara Honegger and Richard Gage provide a broad overview of both the lawsuit and the filing of a grand jury petition; the seven counts of relevant evidence included in the complaint which also cites the destruction by the FBI of evidence related to the "High Fivers"; the Executive Director and Commissioners of the 9/11 Review Commission along with its twelve staff members; next steps in the legal process and what a successful outcome would look like.

The Problem With Wikipedia and the Digital Revolution
I first noticed this phenomenon about five years ago, and it is getting steadily worse.
Yesterday (April 10, 2019) a reader alerted me to the fact that I am being smeared on Wikipedia as a “vocal supporter of the current Russian government and its policies.” The reader also reports that an article in the Daily Beast calls me a “Putin worshiper.” The reader says that he tried to edit the Wikipedia entry without success, and he urged me to give it my attention. He concludes his essay with this frightening statement:
I do not know whether the person who wrote my Wikipedia entry intended to smear me or is merely uninformed. However, dissenting voices do get smeared on Wikipedia. It is an ongoing problem for many of us. For years readers and people who know me would make corrections to my Wikipedia biography, but as soon as the corrections were made, they would be erased and the smears reinstalled.

EU and China sign a Mandate of Trade Heaven
China scores again while the Empire plays regime-change games and arrests and jails journalists.
... Beijing’s drive is to configure national champions in virtually every industrial and post-industrial sector, including preeminence in 5G and AI. The crux of the Chinese strategy is not the US but a close relationship with Europe, where opportunities to acquire first-class technology and first-class education are immense. Not to mention that Europe is BRI’s privileged terminal.
Perception is reality. There’s no doubt the Beijing leadership has understood that this EU-China agreement goes a long way to show, especially to its leaders, that they are dealing with a responsible emerging superpower. The contrast with the acrimony and intimidation tactics displayed throughout the US trade war could not be sharper.

So, you think Washington’s long war on Syria is almost over. Think again.
He argues with solid documentation (read especially the link from Foreign Affairs, a publication of the Deep State) that the US has conveniently, with Trump's help, made its war in Syria invisible to the American people. This permits our masters in the Deep State to go ahead, undisturbed by domestic opposition, with their continuing efforts to destabilize Syria using their hybrid war magic weapons:
... economic warfare, cyber-warfare, covert CIA operations, special operations forces, mercenaries, proxy armies, and allies—weapons of war that can be concealed behind a cloak of secrecy and which minimize the involvement of the US public.I have a strong hunch that the Deep State has not only intimidated Trump by continuing their attacks on him through their media corporations, but by ignoring his executive orders. I don't think there is any doubt that the Deep State holds the allegiance of the armed forces as well as their super-secret "intelligence" agencies. Trump has instincts for powerful players and attempts to mollify them (notice his neocon appointments like Pompeo and Boldton to major posts) to keep them from forcing him out of office.
Meanwhile, what passes for a "left" in the USA is enthralled with the candidacy of Tulsi Gabbard.

A World Divided by Ideologies
Peebles uses some research to support a major insight: every ruling class has always used every institution to indoctrinate their subjects in their self-serving ideology.
We have all been the victims of such sociological/psychological conditioning, some more, some less. Conditioned images of oneself and of others are unconsciously built up, attachment to content made firm. Far from creating the security we yearn for, attachment to the construct ensures fear is maintained. .... The image of ‘me’ in contrast to the ‘you’ is formed, the ‘us’ against ‘them’ takes root; my country versus your country, my political party against yours, my God versus your God, my opinions versus yours and so on, and on, and on.You can see how the present capitalist ruling classes, due to advances of technology and the increased concentration of power, have been enabled to vastly increase their ability to condition the majority of people to support their interests of profit and power. Wars have been the most profitable of all their activities, and have resulted in the concentration of power like never before. This self-serving concentration of power is now threatening human habitat resulting in severe doubt the very survival of humans and many other species.
Attachment to the image is strong, defense of its beliefs and ideals fierce. From this narrow, conditioned center thoughts emerge and actions proceed, creating multiple divisions and disharmony, endless wars and violent conflict.

The Looking Glass Splinters
I'm not sure that I should have posted this because of its rather difficult writing style for the average reader, but this normally insightful author (a former member of MI6) is very worried about the political-economic scene in Europe. He suggests that Europeans may on the cusp of major changes to their fundamental alliances and relations, but the British leadership, in particular, are behaving according to "business as usual". Is it all pretense? Crooke sees fractures everywhere behind the scenes. Among his concerns are Brexit, China's BRI, central banks, the poor European and world economy that's on the brink of recession, and the ongoing Yellow-Vest protests in France. Consider the following examples of his remarks:
Tectonic shifts like this, are rare. But when they do occur, they throw up the possibility of profound change and realignment. And:
"What is astonishing is the apparent continued belief amongst our superior classes that 'ordinary people' aren’t watching and understanding what is afoot.”I have a feeling he is on to something.
From some radical, perhaps? No it is a quote from the former Director General of the British Chambers of Commerce, with 30 years’ experience of UK and EU government.
Trump’s support for Zionism includes defining US Jews as foreigners
Gowans expands on some comments by Trump to illustrate the latter's ignorant view that all Jews look to Israel for their identity. This is only a short step away from seeing Jews as a foreign element in an otherwise Christian society and a legitimate target for hostility. However, this attitude of Jews belonging in the apartheid state of Israel is also shared by Zionist Jews.
Jews as an ethnic group have always excelled in finance because of the Christian and Muslim history of forbidding their members to charge for lending. (Jews also could not charge interest on loans to other Jews.) The almost instinctive attitude against usury was common before capitalism first rose in the 17th century. After the capitalist ruling classes overturned feudal authorities, usury became a common feature of our world. Because Jews had already established a foothold in this business, they became prominent financiers and as such played a very significant role in capitalist enterprise. Ruling classes, both feudal and capitalist, in the past often used hostility against Jews, who were mostly workers, as a "divide and rule" weapon against workers throughout the Christian world.
Gowans goes on to argue that anti-Semites among Western nations favored Zionism and its support for Jews having their own state and thus getting rid of them. This dovetailed well with Zionist objectives. However, Zionist leaders, especially in the 20th century, have nearly always allied themselves with powerful ruling capitalist classes in order to achieve their objectives. Zionist leaders even negotiated with Nazis to facilitate the emigration of German Jews to Palestine. And, as they say, the rest is history.
At this point he argues:
It is not Christian Zionism, or a sincere (though misplaced) effort to protect Jews from anti-Semitism, that motivate Western governments to support Israel. Nor is US foreign policy in thrall to wealthy Jews and their lobbying efforts, a theory propounded by people whose grasp of the forces that shape US imperialism is tenuous at best. Instead, Western support for Israel is grounded in economic interests. Then he introduces us to British communist Rajani Palme Dutt and his views to further explain why Western capitalist countries have historically supported the state of Israel. Read the article to find out.

Concerning Humanity’s Future: Interview with Nick Humphrey, Climatologist and Geoscientist
I first discovered the writings of meteorologist/geoscientist Nick Humphrey with his brutally honest essay The Conversation No One Knows How To Have and since then have followed his posts and comments. He has been featured or quoted in a number of publications such as Mother Jones, New York Times, Washington Post, and Science Alert. Few scientists will publicly tell you how dire things are, but Nick Humphrey is not one to shy away from the truth. What follows is a Q&A interview I held with him on a variety of questions concerning humanity’s future.
The "American Party" within the institutions of the European Union
All this confirms the influence brought to bear by the "American Party", a powerful transversal camp which is orienting the policies of the EU along the strategic lines of the USA and NATO.I think the author has hit on something very important in understanding the geopolitics of today, and I think this goes beyond its European significance. I'll try to express clearly what I have in mind.
I think that the major nations of the world are headed for a major contest between the US/Anglo/Zionist Empire and the multipolar block (chiefly Russia, China, and Iran, but also includes many ordinary people of the world). This could end in either the dominance of the Empire or lead to a catastrophic nuclear war between the latter two block of nations.
I see symptoms of this everywhere, and not only to the Empire's transversal relationship with Europe (the Brexit controversy, the recent visit by Chinese officials to Europe promoting cooperation with the Belt and Road Initiative, the Yellow-Vest movement in France, etc): the futile threats (so far) against Venezuela by the USA, the politics of the USA (Russiagate hoax, other fake news put out by corporate media, jockeying of candidates for the 2020 election, even the disappearance of Joe Biden as a Deep State candidate, the abrogation of several nuclear weapons treaties by the USA, the threats to the US Dollar as the main international currency, etc. (many of these are addressed by Paul Craig Roberts in "Where Is The World Headed?"). Of course, the worst outcome of this clash between the Empire and the proponents of a multipolar world would be a nuclear war which would be catastrophic.
Regarding the Brexit issue, I think that this referendum was passed because it basically was a rejection by ordinary people of Britain of the Empire's dominance in European affairs which appears to be most active at the highest levels of the European Union. I also think that some form of union of European nations is desirable, but not the present arrangement under the Empire's control.
Meanwhile, all these matters distract attention from the immediate concern about the destabilization of Earth's climate and the catastrophes awaiting all of the world's people. In the end it is up to the world's people to avoid these catastrophes, but I agree with Jonathan Cook who is rather pessimistic that people can avert the threats which will end with the extinction of humans.
The deeper questions we have been evading force us to address who we are as individuals and as a society, and whether we wish to have a future, to belong to a planet that possibly uniquely in our small corner of the universe can sustain higher life forms and the supreme achievement of our evolutionary branch-line, human beings.
Only in facing those questions can we rid ourselves of our political confusion and our individual anxiety. Standing on the edge of an abyss should be no time for boredom. It is time for deep reflection, and rapid personal and collective growth.

Kurds in Fateful Triangle as US Moves to Redeploy IS Terror Groups
The Kurds have once again demonstrated (like in Iraq) that they know very little about the ventures they enter in, especially seeking an alliance with, and the protection of, US Forces. Their dream of establishing their own state carved out of Syria and Iraq is going nowhere fast. However, there is increasing evidence that their use by US Forces is another deception imposed upon the American public who are confused by the 24/7 bombardment of fake news. The author who is based in the Middle East offers more evidence that US actions in Syria are creating more mischief.
Kurdish fighters have been used by the US to ostensibly defeat the remaining Islamic State holdouts in eastern Syria. But what is emerging is not a final defeat of the terrorists, more a redeployment to further destabilize the Arab country.I have a hunch (only a hunch) that the US Deep State (read my commentary to this post) has leaned on (mostly by ignoring his policy decisions) Trump so much that he, in self-defense, has compromised away his nationalist policy decisions to approach those of the Deep State's neoliberal (transnational) policies. The appointments to key offices like Pompeo and Bolton are examples of this. I now consider Trump to be something like a "useful idiot" who has been forced to serve the neoliberal and imperial policies of the Deep State. I wouldn't be surprised if the latter doesn't mind his reelection in 2020.
Potentially, the Kurds could wind up not with the regional autonomy they desire, but as part of a rebranded American dirty war army whose ranks include the very terrorist the Kurdish militias have been successfully battling against.
President Donald Trump has been lately crowing about how US-backed Kurdish forces have wiped out the IS self-proclaimed caliphate around Baghouz in eastern Syria. “They’re losers… they’re gone tonight,” he boasted about supposedly vanquishing the jihadists.
However, things are not that clear-cut.

Can We Feed the World without Destroying It?
The author clarifies how the capitalist system affects food production, but has unrealistic hopes about the Green New Deal's ability to transform the present system into one that empowers all of humanity instead of capitalism which serves the needs of a tiny minority of "owners".
He writes:
The food movement has been very good at developing alternatives, but it hasn’t been good at addressing the systemic barriers to good, clean, fair food for all. Some even seem to think that we can transform our food system in isolation of the larger, political-economic system in which it is embedded. That system is capitalism and it has co-evolved with our food system, so clearly we can’t change one without changing the other. But pins his hopes on the Green New Deal:
The good news is that the food system has always been a pivotal pillar in capitalism, so if we can push systemic changes within the food system, it will influence the rest of the system. That’s why things that seem utopic, like insisting on the human right to food and food sovereignty, are so important. To the extent we can ensure these rights, we dismantle capitalism.
... whatever you are doing—studying, gardening, in a CSA [link], whatever—thank you, and keep doing it. Now, you need to do something else: change everything! Let’s catch the momentum of the Green New Deal to build a powerful, broad-based, working class and people of color-led movement for transformation. Let’s create the political will not just for reforms, but for transformative, structural reforms that put us solidly on the road to food sovereignty and to cooling the planet. [my inserted link]Like the New Deal under the Roosevelt administration, the Green New Deal won't be allowed to empower people at the expense of capitalists. Only an organized revolutionary people can do that. The Green New Deal, under capitalist controlled political system, likes its predecessor, will only protect the present ruling class from any substantial changes. He essentially admits that in the first paragraph.

The Green New Deal
I became aware of this phrase sometime late last year, and when I became aware that it was a push by members of the Democratic Party, most especially the newly elected Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, I dismissed it as another ploy to distract ordinary people of the USA from the ongoing efforts of our capitalist ruling class to satisfy their addiction to wealth/power while pretending to confront climate destabilization about which a growing number of ordinary citizens are becoming alarmed. However, I became aware today after reading an article posted on System Change not Climate Change that it was having a distracting effect among people who are concerned about the issue much like the Russiagate phenomenon served to distract attention from all real issues.
Thus, I have perused online posts and selected what I regard as accurate information about the Green New Deal. Let me be clear: I do not entirely agree with all the opinions expressed in these articles. I still insist that nothing short of a worldwide, thoroughly democratic revolution that puts people in charge of the world's economies would be the solution to the climate crisis. Time is fast running out and I can't imagine this happening in time to avoid the destabilization of our climate and our own extinction as a human species (along with many other species).
In order to understand the terms used to describe Congressional actions, I've selected the following resources: Non-binding resolution and H.Res.109 - Recognizing the duty of the Federal Government to create a Green New Deal.

Belt and Road Initiative in Full Swing in Europe
The author writes about his take on the recent visit by top Chinese officials to Europe to confer with the top European officials. China poses a threat to the Empire's uni-polar world as they dangle economic rewards that the Belt and Road Initiative offers to European capitalists. He writes:
No European capital – whether it be Paris, Rome, Berlin or London – intends to break the Atlantic pact with Washington. This is confirmed at every possible formal occasion. However, as Beijing becomes more and more central to questions concerning technology or the supply of liquid capital for investments or business expansion, the changes to the global order seem unstoppable. The author reaches this conclusion:
It is no coincidence that for US strategists the two greatest dangers lie in the possibility of Moscow and Beijing, or Moscow and Berlin, cooperating and coordinating their efforts. The Berlin-Moscow-Beijing triangle, with the addition of Rome and Paris, represents a scenario for Washington that is unprecedented in terms of its challenge to US hegemony in Europe.
Pentagon Obsession: China, China, China
Escobar provides considerable evidence that the Deep State (see my version in the commentary for this post, in Tony Cartalucci's post, and Peter Dale Scott's description), the board of directors of the USA, is obsessed with China and to the threats it poses to the US/Anglo/Zionist Empire's interests of world domination.
Chinese nuclear bombers. Chinese hypersonic missiles. Chinese carrier killer missiles. Chinese cyberattacks. Chinese anti-satellite weaponry. Chinese militarization of the South China Sea. Chinese Huawei spying. He continues on to argue that Russian officials have the expertise to effectively counter the Empire's methods of hybrid warfare, and Chinese officials are avidly studying these methods.
So many Chinese “malign intentions”. And we’re not even talking about Russia.

As she rightly claims, the CIA takeover of America in the 1960s is the story of our time. And our time is now. None of this is ancient history. That is so crucial to grasp. For those who think that learning the truth about the 1960s assassinations is an exercise in futility reserved for those who are living in the past, they need to think again. Our descent into endless war and massive media propaganda to support it is part of a long-term project that began with the elimination of JFK, Malcom X, MLK, and Robert Kennedy. They were killed for reasons, and those reasons still exist, even if they don’t physically, but only in spirit. Their killers roam the land because they have become far more deeply part of the institutional structure of government and the media. This sums up the reaction of Curtin, myself, and so many others about these assassinations. Because Curtin is roughly of the same generation as I, he and I lived through these assassinations all of which presented major difficulties in their coverage by corporate and so-called public media (NPR, PBS, BBC, etc). Just as the Mueller report failed to find evidence of Russiagate which was pure propaganda, so they told lies about the assassinations back in the 1960s.
He writes:
If anyone wishes to understand what has happened to the United States since this coup, and thus to its countless victims at home and throughout the world, one must understand these assassinations and how the alleged assassins were manipulated by the coup organizers and how the public was hoodwinked in a mind-control operation on a vast scale. It is not ancient history, for the forces that killed these leaders rule the U.S. today, and their ruthlessness has subsequently informed the actions of almost all political leaders in the years since. A bullet to the head when you seriously talk about peace and justice is a not so gentle reminder to toe the line or else.As I wrote in a commentary for a post in 2017 regarding the rise of fascism in the USA before we entered WWII:
“But the way the CIA took over America in the 1960s is the story of our time,” writes Pease, “and too few recognize this."
What I don't understand in Curtin's article is the following statement: "All that is now needed is a public tribunal, which is planned for later this year, in which the fundamental, clear-cut facts of these cases are presented to the American public." There have been calls from numerous Americans for Congress to re-open an investigation of these assassinations; but to my knowledge, there hasn't been any planned. Many fascist capitalists in the evolving deep state at the time became aware that this war offered a splendid opportunity for US world dominance after the war was over. This informal project of the Deep State became known as the American Century, a term that was first coined by fascist-inclined Henry Luce, president of Time, Inc., a major multimedia corporation consisting of numerous mainstream publications, radio projects and newsreels. The publication of this article (by the same name) rallied the fascist wing of the US capitalist ruling class, which had previously hid under the label of "isolationism", to support the war against the Axis powers.

Land theft, ethnic cleansing, and Jewish supremacy: Israel’s settler colonialism in Syria’s Golan, the forgotten occupied territory
Gowans strikes again! I mean this in the narrow sense that he pierces through the fog of the never-ending barrage of propaganda that Western academics who, while paying homage to their ruling class masters, imposed on us a highly distorted understanding of the history of that region since WWII.
WWII was a pivotal event in world history. The old colonial powers quickly allied themselves after WWII with the intact and powerful USA to continue their old patterns of imperialism, that is, the desire to constantly expand their operations in pursuit of wealth and power over the rest of the world. WWII was merely a contest among fascist-inclined empires: the British Empire, the German/Italian empire (Third Reich), and the Japanese Empire. The British Empire was reduced to a shell of its former stature, but its ruling capitalists quickly allied itself with the ruling capitalist class in the US and created the state of Israel to obtain financial backing by fascist-inclined Jewish capitalists (Zionists) as well as a base in the energy-rich Middle East.
Since then, the Empire's ruling transnational capitalist class has used technological advances to largely remove national boundaries that hindered their exploitation of working people all over the world in order to satisfy their insatiable appetite for greater wealth and power. Note that the latter clause implies what I firmly believe is an addiction.
I also believe, along with many others, that this historical development portends the end of the human species either in the short term as a result of a catastrophic nuclear war or in the long run (roughly 30 years) through the destabilization of our climate via the loading of our atmosphere with greenhouse gases because of the system's requirement of relatively cheap energy to satisfy this addiction.
Gowans performs a valuable service for us by his clarification of the often obscured history, especially since WWII, of this important region.

The Surrealism of the Information War (Another commentary on this excellent article.)
This article is very thought-provoking, and I would like to share some of my thoughts in my commentary.
Humans since the beginning of civilizations (about 2% of human existence) have been plagued with ruling classes who have tried to convince the rest that it is "their way or the highway", that is, their subjects must always accept their truths or they will be banished or punished in one way or another.
Truth has always been a slow awakening to insights about how our world functions and our place in it. Our creation of scientific methods has offered us a much more disciplined method of discovering truths. As the result of our efforts, we have learned much during recent centuries.
Basically we have learned that we are only a minuscule part of our planet's nature that has produced so many life forms, and we are rapidly destroying our own habitat. This insight is opposed by the current ruling class of capitalists because their very system has not only enabled them to dominate the rest of us to our detriment, but is the culprit responsible for the ongoing destruction of our habitat. We are also becoming aware that their system is responsible for creating extremes of living standards, wars, and many other hazardous conditions for the majority. Is it so surprising that our ruling capitalist class are energetically fighting such truths and proliferating fake news about what is happening in the world?
One of the effects I've been witnessing of this ongoing campaign of fake news is that many occupants in nations controlled by the US/Anglo/Zionist Empire exhibit behaviors that can be described as "deer caught in the headlights". This metaphor suggests that many occupants of the Empire have become mostly immobilized and unwilling to act for their own survival. I especially see indications of this among people in the USA where I live. This troubles me very much.
I think that the ongoing fake news and propaganda spread by our ruling class is largely responsible for this behavior. My fellow Americans are thoroughly confused, and in their confusion, they adopt a "don't rock the boat" kind of attitude. This attitude clashes with relatively few more independent thinkers who are terrified about the dangers posed by our rulers and their system, and who want to act.

Watch My Speech On Assange’s Persecution For “Whistle-blowing, Wikileaks & the Future of Democracy”
She explains one weapon that the Empire directs against us by examining their efforts via their wholly controlled media to smear Julian Assange. This effort is only one example of the power to control us by controlling the narrative of any subject.
Like Libya and Syria, Venezuela Is Not “Just about Oil”
I agree with his argument that recent attacks, and earlier ones which also included various modes of regime change, against nations that tried to pursue too independent actions from the interests of the US/Anglo/Zionist transnational capitalist Empire. But I part company from him over his downgrading of capitalism as a role in these actions. He substitutes capitalism with the abstract term "culture" as the root cause of imperialism. Hence, he argues that Western culture is responsible for the sufferings of most people in the world.
Capitalism is a fundamental system that enables tiny capitalist ruling classes to align all institutions (hence "culture") of societies under their control to conform to their interests of profit and power. It seems so obvious to me that I won't belabor the argument.
Syria: Is US Fighting ISIS or Liquidating Assets?
That the “final stronghold” of the self-proclaimed Islamic State (ISIS) resides in US occupied territory in Syria says it all.Cartalucci tells it like it is in contrast to other writers in alternative media who still hedge this insight behind rather obscure, oblique (def.) words. I have at least 25 posts, many from US corporate media, that support his view about the US, and its allies in the Middle East, which were involved in creating and supporting terrorist armies in an effort to effect regime change in Syria:
From US Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) memos dating back to 2012 noting efforts to create a “Salafist” [Islamic] “principality” [State] in eastern Syria precisely where ISIS rose and now clings to its “final stronghold,” to the obvious fact that ISIS’ fighting capacity was only possible through extensive state sponsorship – it was already clear that the US and its partners in regime change against Syria had been using terrorists including ISIS as proxy ground forces.
Now the US claims it has cornered and is on the verge of defeating ISIS – despite the terrorist group having been cleared out of virtually every other corner of the nation by Syrian, Russian, Iranian, and Hezbollah forces long ago.

Explained: Why Julian Assange & Chelsea Manning hold key to Free Press [updated with an additional post.]
All journalists and publications, be they mainstream or alternative, must step up now or risk losing these freedoms permanently.
This short segment with Patrick Henningsen (21WIRE) and Mike Robinson (UK Column) explains why it’s absolutely crucial and in the public interest to support Julian Assange, Chelsea Manning and WikiLeaks, as all three of these represent fundamental pillars of democracy – the right to publish, the rights of whistleblowers, and a free press. Watch:
Because I had contacted a number of left British websites regarding the importance of British activists to get involved in freeing Julian Assange and have to date received no response, I was especially interested in the reactions of Mike Robinson. I was disappointed that Robinson chose not to respond.

Courthouse News yanks article for its woefully fair and accurate coverage of 9/11 lawsuit
This organization has been battling for nearly a decade to obtain information from government investigative agencies, especially the FBI, to disclose all the information they have regarding what happened on 9/11. They have initiated a lawsuit forcing the FBI to disclose information related to the death of a particular individual, Bobby McIlvaine, who died on that day as a result of the events of 9/11.
If you had to pick one example to best encapsulate the mainstream media bias and censorship that have contributed significantly to suppressing the truth about 9/11 for nearly two decades, it would have to be the extraordinary actions of Courthouse News Service earlier this week.I've often wondered why the government under the control of the capitalist class's Deep State has permitted this lawsuit to go forward. Now it appears that their control of information--unless it was a simple mistake--through all institutions, both privately owned media and government, will be sufficient ability to prevent US citizens to learn about this legal action. Expunging the article from the Courthouse News may well be the first example of that control in this important legal case. From the website of Courthouse News we learn:
... other news organizations are increasingly relying on Courthouse News new litigation reports to help guide their news coverage, putting Courthouse News in a position similar to that of a pool reporter. All told, Courthouse News provides coverage of more than 2,000 courts around the country, spanning all 50 states.

Viet Nam’s Economics Miracle Haunts US-DPRK Talks
The author argues that Russia, China, and other such states are socialist because they use central planning by their governments, have nationalized key industries, and allocated significant resources to acquire technological expertise. I would not identify them as socialist, but mixed economies. Also these countries have failed to take major steps to prevent the destabilization of the climate, but they are vigorously challenging a uni-polar world with the US/Anglo/Zionist Empire as the dominant power. Perhaps it can be argued that it was impossible to do both.
However, this may be an issue only of semantics. Otherwise his argument that these mixed ("socialist") economies perform much better than neoliberal economies, that is, the advanced capitalist economies that make up the Empire or that of former governments in eastern Europe that used central planning, sounds convincing. Regarding the latter, he writes:
In eastern Europe, capitalism, not socialism, brought about an economic collapse. As free market policies swept the region, the results were utterly catastrophic. Governments sold off state enterprises and let Wall Street and London set up shop. The result was mass unemployment; mass starvation accompanied a drastic rise in crimes such as the drug trade and human trafficking. However, amid the failure, the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund thundered that “free markets” and neoliberalism were the only way forward. Milton Friedman and Jeffrey Sachs became the respected voices, and their policies of deregulation and economic plunder expanded far beyond the former Eastern Bloc. In South and Central America, and in Africa, the promises of free market capitalism creating prosperity and abundance never materialized. His main thesis that the Empire fears the success of DPRK's economy is well argued.

An Iran-Syria ‘Belt & Road’: A Far-Reaching Geopolitical Strategy Unfolds
I encountered this article on Monday the 25th of March, but I didn't realize the full significance that it had. It appears to me that Crooke sees a series of bumbling attempts by the Trump administration that risks calamitous consequences for the Empire in their strategy to weaken Iran. Poised against this strategy is the China's Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). Characterizing BRI as a "far-reaching geopolitical strategy" is perhaps an understatement as to its ultimate effects.
As we saw yesterday in Escobar's article and commentary I posted yesterday, President Xi of China is in meetings with the presidents of France and Germany to clear away their objections to BRI. It is also very clear that both Macron and Merkel are very concerned about the tempting incentives presented by BRI for their own European capitalists. Thus, the meetings are critically important in this giant struggle for the US/Anglo/Zionist Empire to maintain their dominant position in the world. (See also an article by Deena Stryker.)
If President Xi should succeed, it will have a number of very adverse consequences for the Empire's anti-Iran strategies. Iran, as Crooke points out, is a key participant in China's BRI. Thus the Empire's transnational capitalist class would not only incur a devastating setback in its project to punish Iran, but far worse. China's BRI would link up Asia, Russia, and Europe and thus consolidate a victory for a multipolar world. Keep in mind that the Empire has already suffered a defeat in its Syrian campaign which struggle was really against Russian efforts to link Europe's economy with that of Russia.
Muddying this picture is the US Deep State's concern about their long favorable relationship with Saudi Arabia following the murder of Jamal Khashoggi, an important Saudi citizen employed by the Washington Post, a key Empire newspaper. As Crooke points out, there is a section of the Deep State that is very worried about their longstanding relationship with Saudi Arabia which has been essential to supporting the US dollar as the primary world's currency following the Vietnam War when USA went off the gold standard.
Thus, Crooke concludes his article with this insightful statement:
Well, the pivot for countering this unfavourable US conjuncture rests on one man: MbS. America’s entire foreign policy, and that of its ally, Israel, has pivoted around this erratic, highly-flawed, psychologically-impaired figure. The NYT leak from CIA officials, with its unqualified endorsement through a NYT board editorial, suggest that the CIA and MI6 have concluded that US global interests cannot be left in such unreliable, unsafe hands.
What this ultimately might mean is unclear, but such a leak would suggest that it stems from a concerted CIA professional assessment (i.e. that it is not just a partisan party warfare). Trump may not concur, or like it much, but the CIA when it does form such a definitive view, is no force to be lightly trifled with.

The Illusory Truth Effect: How Millions Were Duped By Russiagate
She gives many people some valuable lessons on critical thinking when reading (listening, viewing, etc.) reports from corporate and so-called public media controlled by the ruling capitalist classes. They use such deceptions, along with censorship and false-flag events, as a major weapon to manipulate us into supporting their interests.
The question still remains, though: what the hell happened? How did a fact-free conspiracy theory come to gain so much traction among mainstream Americans? How were millions of people persuaded to invest hope in a narrative that anyone objectively analyzing the facts knew to be completely false?
Why Activists Fail. The Importance of Telling the Truth
I debated long and hard about posting this article because it argues for "non-violence" as a principle to guide any activity opposed to the "global elite managers", his description of the capitalist ruling classes throughout the world. But because the first third of the article (down to "So why does all of the above happen?") accurately describes the world, I've decided to post it. The rest of it is a pitch for non-violence.
In the above three sections, I explained the importance of a sound analysis, strategic focus and an appropriate timeframe as well as the importance of telling the truth, in developing and implementing an effective nonviolent strategy. But I don't see any strategy of a social nature. He does advocate that we abide by individual pledges (which are all in bold print) to avoid behaviors that contribution to pollution, boycotting banks which supply loans to polluting corporations, and avoiding following news from mainstream sources. He does throw in references to other strategies, but these appear also to promote the principle of non-violence and obligatory references to Gandhi. But that's all! This argument is neatly wrapped up in a startling package he calls "truth"!
I'm always suspicious when someone advocates non-violence in the context of revolutionary change. Ruling classes always make sure that they have sufficient means of violence to put down any opposition. Likewise they have never hesitated to use violence against their adversaries. So, we must expect violence from them, and we need to protect ourselves. If this is not a sufficient reason to meet your objections, read my counter-arguments to this principle of non-violence in the commentary of my post entitled "On Contact: Extinction Rebellion". Then when he emphasized an individually oriented strategy, my hackles of suspicion rose even more.
So, I recommend reading the first part in which he gives a summary of history of the development of ruling classes, a very apt description of our present state of geopolitical affairs, and his endorsement of Giants: The Global Elite.
All roads lead to Rome for Xi
All (silk) roads do lead to Rome, as this Saturday Chinese President Xi Jinping and Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte will sign a memorandum to adhere to the New Silk Roads, or Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).This was followed by China's President Xi arrival yesterday (Monday, 3/25/2019) in France to meet with French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, and European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker. Channel NewsAsia reports on this visit so far today. This must be causing apoplexy (def.) for the Empire's Deep State (of which Macron is a member).
Afterward, Xi becomes a magnanimous version of The Sicilian, visiting the port of Palermo, with Beijing intent on investing in local infrastructure.
Atlanticist hysteria has been raging wildly – with the simplistic narrative focused on the fact that Italy is a G7 member, at the heart of the Mediterranean “mare nostrum”, and crammed with NATO bases. Thus, it cannot “sell out” to China.
Conte and diplomats in Rome have confirmed that this is strictly about economic cooperation, and signing a memorandum is non-binding. Italy has, in fact, been informally aligned with the Belt and Road scheme since 2015 when it became one of the founding members of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), which finances scores of BRI projects.
Chinese President Xi Jinping on Tuesday (Mar 26) stressed the growing convergence between Beijing and the European Union on global issues from climate change to trade, urging the two sides to overcome their "suspicions."

Greenwashing? The Green Marches are Mute on the “War Factor”
What can you expect with the heavily promoted Youth for Climate and Swedish climate girl Greta Thunberg by capitalist ruling classes other than greenwashing? I'm sure that they have already appointed the leadership to insure that the organization doesn't interfere with "business as usual". The author points out one very obvious contradiction--no mention of wars, and I think that there are many more contradictions that will be revealed in the days to come.
On March 15, the Day of the Popular March for Climate, tens of thousands of young people from several countries, followers of the Swedish student Greta Thunberg, showed their indignation at the indifference of world leaders towards climate change. Since last August, 16-year-old Greta demonstrates every Friday before the Swedish Parliament calling for greater commitment in the fight against the alarming deterioration of the oceans and glaciers.
Surprising (or not) that while environmental activists of the stature of the Honduran Berta Cáceres or the Iranian professor Kavous Emami who have been killed for their struggle against the powers that benefit from the destruction of the environment, the Swedish teenager is presented as leader of the fight to save the planet.
New study shows IPCC is underselling climate change
This is what I expect from scientists in capitalist controlled countries: they underplay the threat of man-made climate destabilization.
"We found that the main message from the reports—that our society is in climate emergency—is lost by overstatement of uncertainty and gets confused among the gigabytes of information," says lead author Dr. Salvador Herrando-PĂ©rez, from the University of Adelaide's Environment Institute and Australian Centre for Ancient DNA.

Russiagate Fizzles Out As Mueller Ends Investigation
The Great Fraud of National Zionism
I regard him as an expert on the subject of Zionism and the Zionist influence over the Empire's policies and actions. I also regard Zionism as a Jewish version of fascism because they combine virulent racism (Jewish nationalists ĂĽber alles), capitalism, and violence against those who differ. The phenomenon has historical roots in Christendom's ban on their followers engaging in any kind of usury. Thus, this was relegated to Jews who are now an important part of the financial elites and an integral part of the Deep State that controls the US/Anglo/Zionist Empire.
After WWII the US capitalist class joined their efforts with the weak British imperialists, and Zionist Jews to create an Empire that has become such a dominant force in the world. This empire sees threats to their dominance from independent actors like Russia and China, and pursue policies to undermine their influence. Such policies, that include regime change, vast military expenditures, and aggressive propaganda campaigns against their opponents, are dangerous to all people, that is, the vast majority of people who are not major capitalists.
Although the author emphasizes the threat to world peace as being due to the Empire's policies and imperialist actions, he underplays the capitalist nature of the driving force behind such policies. He also hasn't expressed any threat of global warming that the capitalist system necessarily poses to our planet and to a habitat that supports humans and other species. That is where he and I differ.

Trump and the War to Save “the War”
Duff exposes the Global War on Terror (GWOT) scam, for what it is:
Lo and behold, a great threat looms over the Middle East. There is nothing worse for the US and its select allies, Britain, France, Israel, Saudi Arabia and Germany than peace breaking out. Yet exactly that, the “threat of peace” is taken as far more devastating than terrorism. And he asks a final unanswered question:
America’s biggest enemy in the Middle East today isn’t ISIS, for those who pay attention, more effort has been made by the US, Israel, Saudi Arabia, and to be honest about it, a host of other nations as well, to save ISIS and al Qaeda from the “axis of evil” than any military effort since Vietnam.
We are, to be honest still, in our eighth year of a war to keep terrorism alive.
Why would someone want discord and suffering on a global scale? Is money and power really worth it?This is another confirmation of the theme I have been hammering for the past several years: the capitalist ruling classes behind the Empire are a driven lot. They are thoroughly addicted to the power that capitalism delivers to them via concentrated wealth. Because of this addiction to power, this question becomes irrelevant. The addiction must be satisfied regardless of the consequences which are horrendous. The real question is: are we ordinary people going to tolerate this any longer? Are we prepared to endure whatever "slings and arrows" that we might experience in the immediate future in order to save us from horrors that await us in the long run?
The unfortunate headline implies that Trump is behind these policies. Trump is only one addicted figure among a whole class of capitalists largely within the borders of the US/Anglo/Zionist Empire.
